"Something went wrong. Please try again later" problem
Recently when I was looking at few thread on Google AdSense community, I found out that there are few people asking about "Something went wrong. Please try again later" error message when they try to apply Google AdSense for their website.
I'm quite interested on what's going on with this problem because I can notice most of them are related to Blogger website, but sometime WordPress website also have this issue when they submit review request and thereafter connect AdSense to WordPress.
So I'm writing this article to provide some suggestion and the sharing's of what I have done to fix this issue. Let's dive in right now.
How to fix "Something went wrong. Please try again later" when submitting a Google AdSense Review Request
1. Robots.txt & Ads.txt
First of all, for Blogger platform website users, you should not enable any custom robots.txt or ads.txt on your website. There are many tutorials on Google and YouTube that always tell you to enable custom robots.txt or ads.txt on your website for better indexing or whatever.
But don't even trust any of them because the original robots.txt and ads.txt file setup by Blogger is already the optimized version.
In addition, some robots.txt generator tool mention their website with links on your robots.txt. All what you do probably could cause Google to use some crawling budget to crawl the website that provide you custom robots.txt.
So Just keep the original and simple robots.txt and ads.txt is already the best thing you can do. Just don't ever mess with these things when you are trying to connect AdSense to your website.
2. AdSense Code Placement
For those who did use another Google AdSense account to submit review requests on your Blogger or WordPress website previously, you have to disconnect your website and old Google AdSense account.
In addition, you have to make sure there is no AdSense code on your website. The AdSense code I mean here has the following format:
<script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>
For those who use custom domain on Blogger or WordPress website, you should have this code on your website and it should be located between <head></head> on your website theme.
For those who are using blogspot.com domain on Blogger, you don't have to add this code between the <head></head> on your website as your Blogger will automatically connect to Google AdSense after you properly submit a review request to Google AdSense for monetization.
By the way, you can have one AdSense code on your website only. If there are 2 or more AdSense code on your website, it might disrupts the functionality of ads.txt and Google AdSense might not be able to review your website accurately. Not to mention they might reject your website if they detect multiple AdSense codes on your website.
3. Ads Block & Incognito Mode
If you have install any kind of ads blocker on the search engine you use, maybe you can try to apply for Google AdSense using incognito mode or using another search engine to fix this problem.
For example, if you install ads blocker on your Google chrome, you may either use incognito mode on Google Chrome, or use other browser such as Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Vivaldi to make your application in your Google AdSense account.
You may also temporarily disabled any ads block extensions on your browser through the "Manage extensions" settings on Google chrome. It may help you fix this Something went wrong. Please try again later" error message problem when you are applying Google AdSense for your website.
You can watch the following YouTube video tutorial to learn how to create an AdSense account and submit a review request properly to Google AdSense.
